In 2023, Worthington initiated the formation of the Cylinder Collective,
a non-profit organization comprised of manufacturers and producers of
residential gas cylinders. The Cylinder Collective is responsible for
developing, implementing and operating pressurized cylinder recycling
programs.
The initiative began after Connecticut passed legislation in 2022
specifying requirements around manufacturers’ responsibility for proper
disposal of residential gas cylinders. Managed by the Pressurized
Cylinder Industry Association (PCIA), Cylinder Collective received
approval for its plan to operate an industry-led, convenient and
operationally efficient gas cylinder recycling program from
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The
organization is working to implement the program statewide before the
end of 2025, including developing a consumer education campaign and
establishing agreements with collection sites and recycling service
providers.
Worthington continues to partner with the PCIA and collaborate with industry peers and environmental stakeholders on the development of a sustainable and scalable approach to product stewardship. This industry-wide approach to taking action today for a better tomorrow demonstrates our commitment to accountability for ourselves, our peers and our partners.
